The Guardian has recently launched ‘social care network’ a professional network, providing insight for social workers and social care workers. It pulls together news, comment and analysis on adult and children’s social care from across the Guardian as well as policy and practice across the UK.
The network includes a regular blog for frontline workers to have their say about their professional lives, and the Guardian has asked us if our registrants would like to contribute. Topics can include day-to-day problems you experience, advice on how to get into the profession and reflections on where social care is going in the future. Articles can be contributed under a pseudonym (false name) if you wish. If you are interested in writing for the Guardian, email socialcare@guardian.co.uk.
Graham Ixer, General Social Care Council’s Head of Social Work Education recently participated in an online discussion on whether the social work degree prepares students for employment, hosted on the Guardian’s Social Care Network. The expert panel included Claire Barcham from The College of Social Work and John Barraclough from London Metropolitan University, amongst others. There were plenty of questions from social workers and students covering issues around placements, budget cuts, supervision and more. You can read the full discussion on the Guardian site, in the comments section and Graham’s follow-up blog on social work education placements.
