A child-centred system: The Government’s response to the Munro review of child protection

We have welcomed the Government’s response to the Munro Review of Child Protection, published in July. The Government has accepted all of Professor Eileen Munro’s recommendations, which include improved relationships between higher education institutions (HEIs) and employers, and offers further contributions to the Social Work Reform Board’s Capabilities Framework. We have been calling for improved relations between HEIs and employers for some time as this is crucial to the quality of practice placements. We have also welcomed the Government’s commitment to work with us, the Social Work Reform Board and the College of Social Work to further develop the skills and training of children and families social workers. Other recommendations include a Chief Social Worker to complement the role of the College of Social Work and Principal Child and Family Social Workers in each local authority.
