As most of you will be aware, the General Social Care Council’s regulatory powers are being transferred over to the Health Professions Council (HPC) from 31 July 2012, subject to Royal Assent.
This will of course mean the end of this e-newsletter for social workers and students, with the final issue of Social Work Connections going out in June 2012. This newsletter has been doing the rounds to the social work profession since 2008, is now sent to over 80,000 of you, and each issue is read by at least 25 per cent of recipients.
The answers we get to our poll questions have helped shape press releases and raise the profile of the issues affecting the sector; from whistle-blowing through to the benefits of an assessed year in practice for newly-qualified social workers, and the adequacy of mental health awareness training in the social work degree.
We know how vital it is that you continue to get news from an authority within the profession, as well as understanding the importance of two-way communication and engagement that the interactive element of the newsletter has enabled.
The College of Social Work, which will be recruiting full members in January 2012, will want to keep you informed and seek your views on developments in the social work sector. Sign-up to receive updates from them and help bridge the gap that Social Work Connections will leave.
