Registration with the GSCC shows commitment to upholding professional standards from the very beginning of your career in social work.
It demonstrates that you are participating in a GSCC-approved degree course and that you have met our requirements around character and conduct. It also means that you agree to comply with the Code of Practice for Social Care Workers, which sets out the standards of professional conduct and practice that are expected of you in your work. Additionally, your Higher Education Institution (HEI) will receive funding for the practice placements that you will complete as part of your course only if you are registered with the GSCC. Once you are registered you need to keep us up to date with your contact details and your status on your course e.g. if you withdraw from, or defer, your studies. You must also pay us an annual fee of £10.00.
At the end of your studies, when your HEI tells us that you've successfully gained your qualification, we will cancel your student registration and invite you to apply to join the qualified part of the register. That is when you become a Registered Social Worker.
